Faith Foundations

Faith Foundations presents the teachings of the faith in an interactive format that presents the information of the lesson through videotaped presentations which draw heavily from Scripture. Using a mix of personal stories, prayers and discussion questions, this course makes it easy to learn and understand the Church's teaching about topics such as the Bible, Mary, Prayer, the Mass and the Sacraments. The course seeks to answer common questions that Catholics encounter each day.

How is the Program Implemented?

Faith Foundations is built as a 24-lesson course that can be split up into two 12-lesson semesters. The program has been designed to provide essential training for parents, school teachers, catechists and any adults seeking to grow in faith. This flexible and dynamic program also provides essential instruction and self-paced learning for those wanting to teach a class or lead a faith discussion group.

Each lesson can take between 30-60 minutes to complete, depending upon individual pacing. Included with each lesson are moving prayers, vocabulary words, opportunities for reflection and links to original sources.

Every lesson contains 20-25 minutes of video lecture given my Mike Scherslight, Director of the School of Faith program. This course is a real gift to those wanting to pass on their faith to the next generation.

Introduction to the Theology of the Body

Based on John Paul II's profound teaching and presented by world-renowned speaker and author Christopher West, The Gift is a comprehensive system designed to lay a firm foundation for those who desire to learn and incorporate the Theology of the Body into their daily lives.

An Introduction to the Theology of the Body: Discovering the Master Plan for Your Life, is an eight-part, four-hour study designed to give you a solid understanding of God's plan for humanity-a plan stamped right into our bodies.

Most people have heard the "whats" of Catholic teaching, but very few have ever heard the "whys." With profound insight, Christopher West demonstrates that the Church's teaching on human sexuality makes sense, and, in fact, is the very "logic" of Christianity-because it corresponds perfectly with the deepest stirrings and desires of the human heart. This study is for everyone searching for their ultimate purpose in life.

In this study you will:

  • Learn why the redemption of our sexuality is the key to happiness.
  • Develop a "new lens" through which to see the world with greater clarity.
  • See how God's mystery is revealed through the body and spousal love.
  • Discover the truth behind the lies of lust and pornography and how they can be overcome.
  • Learn the language of sexual love.

...and much more.

How is the Program Implemented?

Introduction to Theology of the Body: Discovering the Master Plan for Your Life program is divided into 8 unique segments that reflect the pedagogical approach of John Paul II's revolutionary teaching. Introduction to Theology of the Body has been granted the Imprimatur by Justin Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia.

Each lesson can take anywhere between 60-120 minutes to complete, depending upon the individual pacing. Included with the online lessons is the full video content, paired up with the workbook text. The online version provides blogging, journaling capabilities and moments for reflection.

Didache Series

Today, the most comprehensive catechism is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It is found in over 600 Catholic schools in the United States. The Didache Series presents the life doctrine of the Catholic Church in the context of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the teachings of the Vatican II as witnessed by the pontificates of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. The series also draws from Sacred Scripture, the lives of the Saints, and the Doctors and Fathers of the Church.

A web-based system that offers anytime anywhere flexibility and engaging interactive activities to teachers and students alike. These games and activities give learners multiple methods of assessing their skills and knowledge. The assessments offer teachers the benefit of real-time feedback on student progress. This fantastic platform brings learning to life and allows individual customization of learning styles.

The History Behind Didache

The Didache Complete Course Series is comprised of four books, each designed to be covered in the course of one academic year. Now, in conjunction with this new educational internet platform, The Didache Series is being brought to life. This dynamic online course will be the way our younger generations will learn about our precious Catholic faith.

Humanae Vitae

Contraception is a volatile issue facing the Church today. Having been practiced since prehistoric times, birth control is not a new development, but its intrinsic moral sinfulness was understood throughout the first 19 centuries of Christianity and went therefore unquestioned until modern times. Sadly, despite the Catholic Church's consistent opposition to the practice of contraception and her dedication to instructing the faithful on the intrinsic evil of its practice, many Catholic Christians either do not understand the moral implications of contraception or they simply choose to disregard them in their personal lives. This is demonstrated by the fact that some studies report as many as 90% of Catholics disregard her teachings on this issue.

In 1968, Pope Paul VI issued the historic encyclical, Humanae Vitae, subtitled: On the Regulation of Birth. To say this document was controversial would be a gross understatement, the reaction to this encyclical was a level of debate and public dissent throughout the Catholic world that was unprecedented in the history of Christendom. The message was not new nor did it convey any change in Church teaching, but it was promulgated at a time when there was considerable social and political factors that challenged man's fundamental dignity.

Pope John Paul II, during his Pontificate (1978-2005), fortified the faithful and confronted the resistance of dissenting Christians by developing further Pope Paul VI's teaching against contraception in his Theology of the Body series and his Apostolic Exhortation on the Family. In these works, he resolutely defended Traditional doctrines and repeatedly affirmed the Church's opposition to contraception, sterilization and abortion. Although these doctrines are often diametrically opposed to contemporary popular culture, Pope John Paul II regarded Church teaching on these matters to be Divine precept. He encouraged Christians everywhere to "be not afraid," to resist the values of the modern world and to champion the dignity of human life.

In addition to the Theology of the Body and the Apostolic Exhortation on the Family, the Church also expounded on Humanae Vitae in the publications of Donum Vitae (1987) and Evangelium Vitae (1995), further affirming the value and dignity of human life. Unfortunately, few Catholics, regardless of their thoughts on the matter, have actually read any of these documents.

Humanae Vitae, today just as in 1968, continues to affirm the constant teaching of the Church on birth control, but it is much more than a document about contraception. Humanae Vitae encapsulates Church teaching on the relationship of human persons with God and one another as manifested within Christian marriage. In the course of this study, we will examine this relationship more closely especially in light of John Paul II's "theology of the body". It is our hope that through this study Christians will examine the wisdom contained in Humanae Vitae and will re-evaluate their position on the dignity of each and every human life.
